Driver Safety Tips for Shaw GMC Drivers

Young Couple Driving Along Country Road.

The first step in driver safety is purchasing a safe automobile, of which there are plenty here at Shaw GMC Chevrolet Buick, including (but not limited to) the GMC Terrain, Chevy Equinox and Buick Verano. Despite the huge list of great safety features available in these automobiles, true automotive safety comes at the hands of Calgary, AB drivers themselves. Knowing that, we’ve thrown together a few driver safety tips to make sure everyone remembers how to be as safe as possible while behind the wheel of a car, truck, or SUV.

First and foremost, pay attention. According to the Canadian Automobile Association, drivers are 23 times more likely to get into an accident if they are using their cell phones while driving and nine times more likely to crash when reaching for something in their vehicles. Those are things to do when your vehicle is parked, not while it’s moving.

Next it’s important to take care of regularly-scheduled maintenance. There is a maintenance schedule in your vehicle’s handbook for a reason. The best way not to blow out with a flat tire is to replace your tires when the time comes. The best way not to find yourself stranded on the highway is to replace your belts and brakes as necessary. You don’t want to be the problem, and using the Shaw GMC service department is a great way to stay on top that.

Finally, drive defensively to avoid accidents from just driving too aggressively. A two-second buffer is a great following distance, but double that in crummy weather. Also, always drive as though somebody else is going to do something stupid on the road. The more prepared you are for the worst, the better you’ll react to it.

As your Chevy dealership in Calgary, AB, we want you to stay safe while driving, so heed these tips and enjoy your GM automobiles as safely as possible!
